Radical Catholicism | One Year Anniversary

1st Anniversary of RadicalCatholicism.com

Over the years I became convinced that most Catholics had, at best, a limited knowledge of the actual teachings of the Catholic Church. Thus I hoped that this website / blog would be helpful to both Catholics and non-Catholics to understand the actual teachings of the Church. When RadicalCatholicism.com was launched 1 year ago in May 2012, it was started with a singularly simple mission of writing short, easy to read essays that explain some aspect of the Catholic faith, as contained in the Church’s Magisterium. Most essays would include a short story that would help the reader visualize the doctrine being discussed in the essay.

When I started this project, I had three goals…. and later added a fourth.

  1. Keep it simple
  2. Whenever possible, use stories to help the reader visualize the teachings
  3. Be true to the Magisterium of the Church
  4. As frequently as possible, provide references where a reader can obtain additional information

I had no idea whether anyone would be interested in this type of information, delivered on a blog. In the year between early May 2012 and ending in early May 2013, more than 85,200 “Hits” had been recorded on the site. (Thanks to all who have read the essays and a special thanks to those who have commented.) Early in May 2013, I had to decide whether to continue the site, which involves some financial expense; I decided to continue the site for at least one more year. However, the site needed some upgrades and improved connections to other social media sites, such as Facebook. While some of these changes have been made, others are still being initiated.

Among the capabilities that have been added include an automatic notification of a new essay to those who have registered on the site, categories by subject matter with a popup menu, and a donate button. (This site will always remain a free site for the readers. However, if you would like to help with the financial expenses, any contribution would be appreciated.)

One major request….please offer comments and suggestions. I welcome your input, positive or negative, and any suggestions for improving the content or style of the site.

Thanks to all who have read any of the essays.
